We had a long flight from home and with no sleep on the plane, we arrived in Aalborg, Denmark and had an hour-long drive to Randers. With two hours of sleep, we had to make our way to the Memphis Mansion, owned and operated by our good friend, Henrik Knudsen. As usual, the crowd was waiting for us and welcomed us with open arms. After the reception, we got the chance to sing Sweet Spirit into the phone of a man whose mother was sick and unable to be there.
She was crying over the phone as we sang. Our first concert was in Randers and the crowd loved the show. The hour was late when we got back to the room, and we had an early flight so with very little sleep we made the one hour drive back to the Aalborg airport and flew to Oslo.
After the show, we had a meal at the hotel. I had made a get-well video for a lady named Lisa and, as I was leaving the gathering, her husband was there and had brought Lisa with him.
She was in a wheelchair, and as I spoke to her, she told me with tears in her eyes, that the doctors had given her two months to live! I felt impressed to pray for her right there in the lobby of the hotel. At breakfast the next morning, they were there, and their friend came over and said she had felt the warmth through her body as I prayed for her.
She slept through the night, which was not normal for her. Would you pray that God would touch Lisa in Norway and confound the doctors who had given her no hope? All things are possible with God and healing was paid for on the cross of Calvary over years ago. I simply asked and we will see what God will do. The year is almost gone and a new year is fast approaching. This year has brought both disappointments and encouraging developments. Bill Gaither does this every May and we were honored to be there.
I hope you can be there in You can go to Gaither. In August, we had two major events. We did a concert with our friends, the Stamps Quartet, across from Graceland. What a great crowd we had, and Donnie Sumner was his usual hilarious impromptu self. After Memphis, we drove back to Nashville and boarded a flight for Denmark. Our friend and promoter, Henrik Knudsen, had his first European Elvis festival and it was a smashing success. We will be back next year for another festival. It was a celebration of 25 years of marriage with my wife, Tina, who deserves a medal for putting up with my schedule.
We had concerts in Barcelona and then two shows with Dennis and one gospel show with the Imperials while aboard ship. In November we did a ten-day tour with Morgan Voein in Norway. The tour was a great success and we made many new friends.
Our hope is that we will return sometime in the future for another tour. December found us back for our Christmas tour with Dennis Jale as we started out in Basel, Switzerland and ended up two weeks later back in Vienna, Austria for our ninth anniversary of Christmas shows with Dennis.
In , we will begin the year with our new tenor, Will Shaw. He comes to us highly recommended and we are excited to see what doors God opens for us. We wish Royce great success as he pursues his own schedule with the Vogues, and solo concerts. James Burton will play guitar with us on our songs and he and I will be interviewed by Mike about our work with Elvis. I hope you will be watching it. I am back home from a two week Christmas tour of Switzerland and Austria.
It was an amazing and fast-paced tour with receptive crowds everywhere. We wound up in two beautiful churches; one in Judenburg, Austria and the last one in a beautiful church in Vienna called Votiv Church. Vienna has a large cathedral in the center of the city called St. Stephens church that was built in the s.
It was semi-destroyed at one time and was rebuilt. Votiv Church is a smaller replica of that huge St. Stephens church. So at the church in Judenburg, we wore scarves and gloves while the audience wore their warm clothes as we sang.
Would you believe the Votiv church on Saturday night was full and the temperature in that beautiful but cold sanctuary was below freezing? As we sang, I could see our breaths escaping from our mouths. Sunday morning we left the hotel at 6 am for the Vienna airport and boarded the plane at am and sat on that plane for one and a half hours waiting on the wings to be de-iced.
I was ok with them taking as long as necessary to be sure we lifted off the ground. I even lifted my feet on takeoff to help the pilot.
So, we took off around 10 am, bound for Frankfurt, Germany, where we transferred to our Lufthansa flight to Chicago on a double-decker. The seats were too small and as tired as we were and as busy with up and down travelers going to the bathroom, sleep was impossible. We arrived in Chicago around 3 pm and because of the delays in Vienna, we missed our connection and were put on a later flight.
By the time we arrived home, it was 9 pm Sunday night. We had been up for 36 hours! Merry Christmas to all of you and remember the reason for the season. I sit here in a hotel room in Vienna, Austria, away from my wife and my children and I hope and pray daily they are safe, happy, and provided for as I pursue this costly adventure I have chosen for my life.

The finale was with all those who sang that night.
Tanya Tucker came out and was featured on Burning Love. I have to say it was a night to remember. I am hopeful it will be a PBS special this year. Last month we flew to Austria for our Christmas shows with Dennis Jale.
Tina was able to go this time. So we left home and spent two weeks in and around Vienna, Austria. Tina got to the shop and the group got to sing. We did a state-run TV show for the first time. On our last day there, we took a train to Salzburg and spent the day touring that beautiful city. We also toured Salzburg Fortress began in the s.
Many pictures and memories were made. I pray is a great and glorious year for you. Many are hurting. Remember to be thankful for health and provision. Happy New Year! There were legendary performers from around the world, all invited to share their talents with that audience. This was a concert that exceeded my wildest imaginations!
From the first rehearsal to the show, I knew it was going to be a night to remember. Jason Scheff had heard of us from his father, Jerry, so when he heard us sing, he came up to me and we had a nice chat.
He asked me if we would back him on 25 or 6 or More. I went to that hall expecting to rehearse our songs, and Jason asked us to back him. Of course, we said yes. He knew us so he told him. Later, I had a photo taken with him backstage. Brian hopes to take this show to London next year. He knew of the Imperials since childhood. His father, Buddy, had an auto dealership in Paducah, KY, and used to sell cars to many of his gospel heroes. There were so many great moments that occurred with the guitar jam sessions.
The Elvis segment was last. We came out with Jason and did his song. Jason Scheff came on stage to play bass for us just like his father would have done.
It ended with several Elvis tunes and a stage full of all the performers singing songs by the king of rock and roll. I guess the only three people on that stage that actually worked on stage with Elvis were James, Ronnie, and me. This show was so good, I have a feeling you will see it on PBS sometime next year. You will want to get a DVD of it. God placed me in the Imperials for a reason. He had a plan from the foundation of the world.
I will go wherever He leads and sing to anyone who will listen. We just returned from a wonderful week in Panama City Beach, FL, where Tina, my wife, Leah, our daughter, and I spent some great times on the sunny beach of our condominium rental. Leah had combed the available units until we found one that looked good and priced right at the time we needed it. On Sunday, October 19 we loaded up the van and made the 7-hour drive to the beach. We had a lovely drive going down and no one got in our way!
There were no freeway parking lots and no accidents along the way. We arrived Sunday night, stopped off at the Fresh Market for eggs, bacon, and fruit, before heading to the condo. We arrived in loud oldies rock music from the beach. I could have taken it more easily if it had been Elvis music.
Have you ever been around a Harley? The DB level will part your hair! Every day was sunny so after breakfast, we made our way to the beach where we baked ourselves along with everyone else, before wading into the ocean waters and collecting shells. I noticed every step I took I made a good impression in the sand for about 15 seconds and after three of our four waves, my footprint was totally wiped out!
We saw sharks, stingrays, and seagulls all doing their thing. While down there, we celebrated my birthday and even had a friend of our friend, Kathy, who blew the Conch shell on the pier. On Saturday afternoon, we were at early dinner sitting next to a table of Alabama Crimson Tide football ladies. I said yes, of course. It should be a great event. Proceeds go to the James Burton Foundation, which gifts children and veterans from all over the nation with guitars.
Hope to see you there! Elvis week is now in the history books. There were many highlights and the fans were there from all over the world. Hardin of the TCB band, Estelle Brown of the Sweet Inspirations, Andy Childs, who produced the big screen show and emceed many events of the week, and Terry Mike Jeffries, a multi-talented artist who has been singing for Elvis fans for many years. A surprise guest we got to meet in the lobby, Jose Feliciano, Feliz Navidad sat for a picture with us.
The big event on Friday night featured all the original cast members from the opening at the Las Vegas Hilton International Hotel. Saturday morning I was interviewed with Jim Murray about our times with Elvis and we shared some insight into our life with the king of rock and roll. Larry Strickland and Ed Hill from the Stamps were there to sing with both groups some gospel songs we love and Elvis loved.
Rock and roll is fun music and we enjoy singing it but the high it gives you is temporary. Gospel music feeds your soul and can change your life forever if you let it. To many, it makes them feel good.
